Henrikas Nagys

The Axle

"The Axle" is a selected by H.Nagys himself collection of his poetry from books published while being in emigration. In the titles of more significant sections of the book an accent of the word brother arrests attention. In the most general sense "brotherhood" means that all people are sisters and brothers. In H.Nagys's poetry brothers are those to whom his verses speak. The images of brotherhood lead to the other themes: those of craving, loss, nation, death, home, and the search of the sense of being. The poetic reality emerges in the verses from the singular details by transforming and actualizing them.
The poetry of H.Nagys is close to the poetic language of V.Mačernis.
